On Wednesday the Associated Press reported that Bannon, who dabbled in film production, partnered with Weinstein and his brother Bob on a now-defunct DVD distribution company in 2005. The Weinstein brothers owned 70% of Genius Products, as it was so humbly called, when they joined Bannon’s project.
Genius Products filed for bankruptcy in 2011 — but not before Bannon pocketed upwards of $700,000 as a consultant for the company; he also reportedly received more than $1 million in stock options when the company started.
And as it so surprisingly turns out, Bannon was quite thrilled by the company’s partnership with Bob and Harvey. Bannon’s enthusiasm for the Weinstein partnership was relayed to investors on several calls, transcripts of which the AP obtained
